Farm and Garden

Share the Farm and Garden love—help us fund student internships, apprenticeship training, and community education.

We are dedicated instructors working to engage students, apprentices, and the community around the ties between sustainable agriculture and social justice through hands-on, experiential learning. The UC Santa Cruz Farm and the Alan Chadwick Garden on the UC Santa Cruz campus are both internationally known sites managed by the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS).

We’re raising money for activities that support ongoing student, apprentice, and community learning (along with instructor training) in this vital and rapidly evolving field. Our project matters because we address ongoing global challenges in growing, harvesting, and providing access to healthy, organic fruits and vegetables. Students, apprentices, and community members are inspired and equipped with techniques for urban garden development, rural farm sustainability, and more.

We offer internships to 300–400 undergraduates each year, and have trained 1,600+ apprentices (from educators to policymakers) now working worldwide. Our Farm and Garden on the UC Santa Cruz campus attract thousands of visitors annually for workshops, tours, and other learning opportunities. On Giving Day, your donation goes further: there is a one-to-one match fund of $1,000.  Check out the New York Times video with Mark Bittman at our Farm and Garden.
